Tiered Password Hints

Progressive hints for the four key password checks and the final Path P password in Password b0.85

One of Password’s central mechanics is carrying information across timelines. Most password clues come from the dialogue in bad endings; Resonate? then returns you to the earlier password check. A few passwords are hinted at before the input appears.

In b0.85, four password checks have a major effect on the main story:

  1. D4 or D6, depending on the character Route
  2. D7
  3. D10
  4. D17

The final Path P sequence also contains a simpler standalone password. D1 and D3 have optional inputs, while D2 allows an attempt but has no valid password.

ImportantHow to use this page

This guide provides progressive hints rather than revealing the key passwords outright.

Start with Tier 1. Open Tier 2 only when necessary, then use Tier 3 as the final step. In the letter patterns, each _ represents one hidden letter.

Every password covered by the four key checks and the final Path P sequence is a single English word. Input is not case-sensitive, but the spelling must be correct.

First key password group

Input time:

  • Roswell Route: D4 afternoon
  • All other character routes: D6 morning

Each of the six character routes has its own password. You must enter the word associated with your current route to receive the warning needed to avoid that route’s early failure.

Entering another character’s valid password shows the warning vision associated with that character, but it does not protect the character on your current route.

Tier 1 hint

The clearest clue for each password appears in that character’s early bad ending.

These passwords are designed around information carried back from a failed timeline. After seeing the relevant failure, use Resonate? to return to the earlier password check.
Tier 2 hint

Look for a word that is repeated, unusually emphasized, or written in all capitals during the failure timeline.

The word usually relates directly to the cause of that character’s death or danger.

For Tyson’s clue, choose Open it. when the letter appears. Choosing Ignore it. skips the explicit word.
Tier 3: letter patterns
  • Dean: d _ _ _ h c _ p
  • Tyson: s _ l _ d _ r _ t y
  • Roswell: d _ s c _ v _ r y
  • Orlando: s _ n t _ n c _
  • Hoss: h _ r _ i s m
  • Sal: d r _ _ m _ r
Note

For Roswell, entering the correct password reveals the warning but does not automatically save him. You must still make the appropriate choice later in the sequence.

Second key password

Input time: D7 evening

Only one password is accepted here in b0.85.

Tier 1 hint

Allow the password check to fail and continue into the Benson bad ending.

The clearest clue appears in the conversations surrounding Benson’s death. Resonate? then returns you to the D7 Vault.
Tier 2 hint

Notice how the characters describe the mental state required to commit the act, and how they characterize what someone did to Benson.

The same word connects both ideas.
Tier 3 hint

The word describes the act of turning against someone who trusted you.

Letter pattern: b _ t r _ y _ l
Note

The two older candidate words are not accepted passwords in b0.85. Their earlier use is covered in Legacy Password Archive.

Third key password

Input time: D10 evening

Tier 1 hint

The word is spoken several times before the password check.

Outside the Sal Route, revealing Oswin changes which character is involved in part of the conversation, but it does not change the password.
Tier 2 hint The same word can summarize the disaster that unfolds on the Path C/D side after this check is missed.
Tier 3 hint

The word describes the deliberate killing of many people in a single event.

Letter pattern: m _ s s _ c r _

Sal Route exception

Giving up on this password during the Sal Route does not move the run to the ordinary Path C/D side. The earlier intervention in Sal’s sleep-related problem prevents that branch.

For Gallery completion, you still need to enter the correct password. Entering it displays Sal’s Vault CG and a related image filed under another character’s Gallery category. Other Sal Gallery content is obtained through normal Route progression and does not depend on this password.

Fourth key password

Input time: D17 afternoon

Tier 1 hint

Focus on Orlando’s wording.

During the Vault sequence, the correct memory prompt is Orlando said it. Tyson’s dialogue is relevant to the situation, but it is not the direct source of the answer.
Tier 2 hint

The word describes the form associated with Tyson after he loses control.

Entering monster or feral makes Thanatos tell you that you are close.
Tier 3 hint

Letter pattern: w _ r _ w _ l f

The answer names a legendary human who transforms into a wolf-like creature, usually under a full moon.

Tyson Route exception

On the Tyson Route, the story stays on Path A/B after a failed D17 check.

On D18, Tyson identifies the source of the high-frequency sound and then sleeps in Dave’s room, preventing the D19 disaster. No extra affection threshold, romance status, character-survival requirement, or additional choice is needed.

For the full branch logic, see Lettered Path System.

Final Path P password

The final Path P sequence contains a standalone password that is separate from the ordinary day-based Vault system. Its clue is presented immediately before the input, and an incorrect answer automatically returns to the same prompt.

Tier 1 hint Read Thanatos’s wording immediately before the keyboard prompt.
Tier 2 and Tier 3 hints

The word means the process of deifying someone or elevating a mortal to divine status.

You do not need information from another Path or bad ending.

Optional and legacy inputs

The early-game Vault contains several inputs that are not required for normal progression:

  • D1 has a hidden Easter input.
  • D2 allows the player to enter text, but no answer is accepted on that day.
  • D3 has an optional Easter input that increases affection for all six characters.
  • Some retired password words are still mentioned in b0.85, but they are no longer accepted inputs.
  • A D11 word is shown and defined in the story, but it is not a usable password in b0.85.

These items are not part of the four route-critical password checks.

For the optional inputs and their effects, see Easter Eggs and Hidden Inputs.

Retry behavior

A normal wrong answer does not immediately display Resonate?

  • D3 and D6 use Try Another Password.
  • D4, D7, D10, and D17 use Try Again.
  • The corresponding exit option is Give up.
  • Resonate? appears after certain Bad Endings or Path endpoints and sends the player back to an earlier password check.
  • The final Path P password automatically repeats after an incorrect answer and has no exit menu.

Still stuck?

Check the following:

  1. Are you playing b0.85?
  2. Are you following instructions written for b0.7 or an earlier version?
  3. Is the spelling exact? Capitalization does not matter, and leading or trailing spaces are removed automatically.
  4. Are you entering the word on the correct day?
  5. For the first password group, are you using the word associated with your current character route?
  6. Have you mistaken a failed-timeline clue for something that should appear before the first attempt?

If the result still seems wrong, note your character Route, current day, displayed Path, and most recent major choice before comparing the steps again.
